CCM: Coatings Industry publishes top 50 Chinese coating enterprises in 2015 10-20-2016

On 18 May, 2015, the Coatings Industry published the Top 50 Chinese Coating Enterprises List. Accordingly, there is still a wide gap between domestic enterprises and foreign ones from the perspectives of operation scale and market shares. Besides, from the perspective of location, coating enterprises in Guangdong Province and Shanghai Municipalily account for the major market shares in the domestic market.


On 18 May, 2015, the Coatings Industry, China’s first financial and economic medium magazine of the coating industry, published the Top 50 Chinese Coating Enterprises List according to coating enterprises’ revenues in financial year of 2014. This is the first publicity of the top 50 list. It helps coating enterprises and its upstream and downstream enterprises from home and abroad know more about the development status, regional advantages and investment environment of the Chinese coating industry and help these top 50 enterprises become more famous inside the industry.


From the perspective of revenue


There is still a wide gap between domestic enterprises and foreign ones and the concentration of the Chinese coating industry needs to be improved.


According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics of the People’s Republic of China, in 2014, the total revenue from the Chinese coating industry hit USD63.23 billion (RMB386.76 billion), increasing by 11.90% year on year. The revenue from the top 50 enterprises reached USD17.66 billion (RMB108 billion), merely accounting for 27.93% of the total; the revenue from the top 10 enterprises was USD9.06 billion (RMB55.41 billion), accounting for 51.30% of the total revenue from the top 50 enterprises and 14.33% of the total revenue from the whole industry; the revenue from domestic private brand enterprises (34, Hong Kong and Taiwan included ) in the list was USD7.39 billion (RMB45.18 billion), 41.83% of the total in the list and 11.68% of the total of the whole industry; revenue from the rest enterprises (16, foreign-funded enterprises) accounted for as high as 58.18% of the total in the list.

From the perspective of operation scale


Operation scales of the top 50 enterprises differ a lot. Among the top 50 enterprises, only 2 had a revenue of over USD1.63 billion (RMB10 billion); they are Nippon Paint (China) Co., Ltd. and AkzoNobel (China) Investment Co., Ltd.; 5 enterprises had a revenue between USD490.48 million (RMB3 billion) and USD1.63 billion (RMB10 billion); 26 enterprises had a revenue between USD163.49 million (RMB1 billion) and USD326.98 million (RMB2 billion).

From the perspective of location

 

The geographical distribution of the top 50 enterprises is uneven. Guangdong Province and Shanghai are two main areas where scaled coating enterprises are concentrated.


Among the top 50 enterprises, 16 are in Guangdong Province, 15 in Shanghai, 3 in Beijing, Hunan Province and Liaoning Province respectively, 2 in Anhui Province and Tianjin Respectively, 1 in Shandong, Hebei, Fujian, Hebei, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces respectively. Thereinto, the accumulated revenue of the 16 enterprises in Guangdong Province reached USD3.45 billion (RMB21.13 billion), accounting for 19.57% of the total; that of the 15 enterprises in Shanghai hit USD10.04 billion (RMB61.43 billion), 56.88% of the total.
