Affected by the abundant industry supply and the poor demand abroad, the price of xylitol in 2019 showed a volatile downward trend. The annual average ex-works price was USD4,492.03/t (RMB31,270.83/t), down by 3.53% YoY.

The export volume of saccharin and its salts in China from Jan. to Nov. 2019 reached 13,325.02 tonnes, down by 96.36 tonnes YoY, and 14,484.17 tonnes in 2018, down by 505.06 tonnes YoY. Germany was the largest export destination of Chinese saccharin and its salts, accounting for 15.04% of total exports. The export volume to the US in Jan.–Nov. 2019 was 558.65 tonnes, down by 30.73% YoY.

On 4 Jan., *ST Nanning Sugar Industry announced that it completed the 75% equity transfer of holding subsidiary Huanjiang Yuanfeng by public listing, expecting to increase its net profit by about USD24.42 million (RMB170 million). Couple with government subsidies of about USD59.18 million (RMB412 million), the company would received USD83.60 million (RMB582 million) in succession by the end of the year, seeing the dawn of hope to keep listed in the market.

By the end of Dec. 2019, China had produced 3.80 million tonnes of sugar, up by 58.16% YoY, with a cumulative sales of 1.98 million tonnes, up by 51.22% YoY, and the cumulative sales rate of 52.10%, down by 2.39 percentage points YoY.

On 26 Dec., the Ecology and Environment Bureau of Qiandongnan Prefecture issued the EIA report for the technical transformation project of 3,000 t/a of functional sucrose fine grain series products in Xinzihong. According to the announcement, the total investment of the project is USD4.31 million (RMB30 million), with the construction period of 12 months, and expected to launch in Jan. 2021, when it will achieve the production capacity of 3,000 t/a of functional sucrose fine grain series products after completion.

Bailong Chuangyuan proposed to invest USD12.21 million (RMB85 million) in building a 15,000 t/a of functional sugar project in Shandong Yucheng High-Tech Industrial Park. The construction scale includes 5,000 t/a of allulose, 5,000 t/a of GOS and 5,000 t/a of xylitol, of which 11,000 tonnes of solid products and 4,000 tonnes of liquid products are produced annually.
