5月23日，国家粮食中心公布当天国家临储玉米拍卖结果，最终总成交率达到90.66%。此次，临储玉米销售底价均比2018年的拍卖底价提高200元/吨（USD/t29.70），远超市场预期水平，极大程度地提高了玉米成本。但后期来看，市场利空因素较多。

2019年5月份，中美贸易争端升级。5月10日，美国对中国2,000亿美元商品加征关税税率由10%提高至25%。5月13日，中华人民共和国财政部网站发布国务院关税税则委员会公告，自2019年6月1日0时起，对已实施加征关税的600亿美元清单美国商品中的部分商品提高加征关税税率，分别实施10%、20%、25%加征关税。

4月29日，吉林省生态环境厅发布公告，中粮生化公主岭公司1万吨/年蜡质玉米变性淀粉及中水回用项目获环评审批通过。项目1万吨/年蜡质玉米变性淀粉产能包括：羟丙基二淀粉磷酸酯8,000吨/年、乙酰化双淀粉己二酸酯2,000吨/年。

4月25日，合源正达精细化工循环经济产业园项目正式开工建设。项目分三期建设，开工建设的为一期工程。一期工程的发酵工段主要以玉米为原料，生产维生素产品和干淀粉、玉米浆、玉米油、山梨醇、丙氨酸等玉米深加工产品。

4月30日，中粮生化发布2018年年度报告，实现营业收入177.04亿元（USD2628.89 million），同比增长11.40%(调整后)；归属于上市公司股东的净利润4.83亿元（USD71.72 million），同比下降48.02%(调整后)。中粮生化在2018年完成资产重组，提高其燃料乙醇的市场份额。

4月底，龙力生物发布2018年报，营业收入为8.56亿元（USD127.11 million），同比下降56.47%；归属于上市公司股东的净利润为亏损28.05亿元（USD416.52 million），比2017年亏损金额有所减少。5月10日龙力生物收到深圳证券交易所下发的《关于山东龙力生物科技股份有限公司股票暂停上市的决定》【深证上(2019)267号】，龙力生物股票将自2019年5月15日起暂停上市。

据绥化日报4月29日报道，国投生物海伦公司年产30万吨燃料乙醇项目在春节停工后，已于2019年3月18日复工建设。项目计划2019年11月进行试车，2019年12月15日正式投产。

5月14日，国家粮食交易中心网站发布公告，2019年5月23日启动2019年国家临储玉米竞价销售，首次投放玉米数量共计400万吨，全部为2014年东北产玉米。
