On Sep. 18, 2012, a technology program, namely "Lyocell Fiber Industry R&D with capacity of 1,000t/a", gains acceptance borne by China Textile Academy and Xinxiang Bailu Chemical Fiber Co., Ltd. (Xinxiang Chemical Fiber), which means this production line of lyocell fiber will be put into commercial operation soon. Then, Xinxiang Chemical Fiber becomes one of few lyocell fiber producers in China.
Xinxiang Chemical Fiber is not the only one engaged in research on lyocell fiber, several domestic leading textile enterprises are struggling to enter this industry, such as Shanghai Lyocell Fiber Development Co., Ltd., Baoding Swan, due to the push by fierce competition of China's traditional textile industry and excellent performance of lyocell fiber.
Shanghai Lyocell Fiber, a subsidy of Shanghai Spinning Group, is the only one that can produce lyocell fiber commercially with capacity of 1,000t/a currently, which is also the sole enterprise in the world that can produce bamboo lyocell fiber. In March 2012, its lyocell fiber product passed the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 ecological certification. (Please refer to Biomaterial China News 1204, Shanghai Lyocell Fiber gained ecological certification) In Sep. 2012, Shanghai Spinning Group will spend USD39.5 million (RMB250 million) per year as R&D grant on poly sulfonamide fiber, lyocell fiber and parster fiber, which may help the company gain more achievements in technology to catch up with Lenzing AG, the sole producer in large scale all over the world, whose capacity is 150,000t/a currently and may reach 210,000t/a by 2015.
In addition to Shanghai Lyocell Fiber and Xinming Chemical Fiber, there are two other listed textile enterprises—Baoding Swan Co., Ltd. (Baoding Swan) and Jiangsu Xinmin Textile Science & Technology Co., Ltd. (Xinmin Technology) having already constructed the product plants with capacity of 30,000t/a. In May 2012, Baoding Swan started to construct the lyocell fiber program with capacity of 30,000t/a. In the semiannual report of year 2012, it says that it will finish the ending work and start pilot production in Q3 2012, and then it will be the largest lyocell fiber producer in China. In Dec. 2011, Xinmin Technology tried to raise fund by non-public offering for lyocell fiber program with capacity of 30,000t/a, but it failed. In July 2012, it restarted the non-public offering.
