Vice Minister Yu Kangzhen met with Mr. Gabriel Delgado, Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Argentine Republic, in Beijing on October 23, 2014. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening agricultural cooperation between China and Argentina.

Yu noted that over recent years, the two ministries have developed a friendly relationship and maintained fruitful cooperation. The Chinese side is keen to work with Argentina to promote pragmatic collaboration in all agricultural sectors.

In this regard, Yu put forward a five-point proposal: first, to make good preparation for the upcoming visit of Minister Carlos Horacio Misaquela to China; second, to advance bilateral cooperation in horse industry, enhance China''s horse breeding and keeping capacities through technical communication, and intensify the efforts in receiving and rearing the horses presented by Argentina as national gifts; third, to make good arrangements for the 1st dairy working group meeting of China-Argentina Joint Commission on Agriculture to step up dairy cooperation in a down-to-earth manner; fourth, to facilitate the implementation of the MOU between China and Argentina on animal health signed this July, with a focus on the cooperation in prevention and control of foot-and-mouth disease; and fifth, to foster the cooperation in technologies and equipment under irrigation programs.

Delgado fully agreed with Yu on his above remarks and proposal. He said that the Argentine side has attached great importance to its agricultural partnership with China, and is looking forward to broader cooperation in the areas of irrigation, livestock production, agricultural biotechnology and fisheries, in order to make more tangible progress jointly.
