Canada's largest biodiesel plant comes to realisation soonest

As biofuels producer Great Lakes Biodiesel announced construction partner, plans to build Canada's largest biodiesel plant moved a step closer to realisation.

Engineering services management company TWD Technologies is to provide full engineering, procurement and construction management for the new plant in Welland, Ontario. The plant is scheduled to be operational before the end of this year.

Great Lakes will use the new facility to produce ASTM 6751 biodiesel primarily from Canadian vegetable oils such as soy and rapeseed.

"We are proud to be working with TWD and other highly-skilled workers in the Niagara region to complete the plant," says Great Lakes CEO Barry Kramble. "We believe TWD brings invaluable experience, having worked on other large refinery projects, to oversee the construction completion of ours."

When completed, the new Great Lakes Biodiesel plant will have the capacity to produce 170 million litres of biodiesel per year.
