Cargill launches Vietnam''s animal feed plant

An opening ceremony for its US$18-million animal feed plant at the Dong Van Industrial Zone in the northern province of Ha Nam has been held by Cargill Thursday (Mar 22).

Once being put into official operation in the third quarter of this year, the plant is expected to have an annual capacity of producing 240,000 tonnes of high-quality animal feed, said General Director Greg Page.

The four-hectare plant, the ninth run by Cargill in Vietnam, will help the US firm boost its annual animal feed output in the country to one million tonnes, Page was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

Cargill is studying to build more animal feed plants to raise its current capacity to 1.5 million tonnes per year by 2015.

Currently, Cargill Vietnam operates nine plants in Vietnam, including seven established by itself in Dong Nai, Long An, Dong Thap, Binh Dinh, Can Tho, Hung Yen and Ha Nam provinces and two others acquired from Provimi Group (the premix plant in Dong Nai''s Bien Hoa city) and Higashimaru Vietnam Co. Ltd (the Tien Giang shrimp feed mill) in 2011.

Established in 1995, right after Vietnam and the US normalised diplomatic relations, Cargill provides high-quality products for Vietnam''s market with an assistance of Nutrition Research Center of Cargill in Minnesota.

Along with animal feed, Cargill Vietnam also participates in purchase, process and exports of cocoa, fish oil and pangasius fish to the Netherlands, the Philippines and the US.

From 2008, it has provided a number of materials and additives for food and foodstuff processing industry in Vietnam.

Cargill Vietnam''s business also stretches to steel manufacture in the Southeast Asian country.
