Afamsa to build new fishfeed processing plant
The Spanish Ocean Department will put aside EUR5.7 million (US$7.73 million) to build a new plant of Afamsa in the town of Mos in Spain.
Besides producing feed for food animals, Afamsa also produces refined oils and fats from fish products.
The company will put in approximately EUR14 million (US$19 million) in new facilities and will begin constructing this week in the industrial area of Mos, where it obtained 28,000 square meters of land which is twice the size of its current property.
"We are in an urban area where we have no possibility of growth," managing director Andrés Valiñas said.
Valiñas said that in two years' time they will transfer to the new premises, but it will maintain two plants in the transition period. Gradually, all production will happen in Mos and 29 workers will move to the new plant.
Afamsa, Manufacturers Association of Marine Oils, was started in 1965 due to the merger of several Spanish producers of oil and fishmeal and the family business, Irgas.
