Rising beef exports boost UK animal feed industry
UK beef exports that have risen significantly over the past 12 months give boost to the British animal feed industry.
The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) has revealed 8,000 tonnes of fresh and frozen beef was exported in July - 31% more than the same time last year. Overall, 56,000 tonnes of beef have been exported this year, with the Netherlands, Ireland and France representing a large proportion of the market.
"This increase in exports is partially a result of UK production increasing by 10% in the first seven months of this year compared with the same period in 2009," a spokesman from beef and sheep sector representatives EBLEX said. The growth in production will be welcomed by those in the animal feed industry as farmers could increase their uptake of feed.
