CCM: Demand forecast of insecticides in 2015

  At the end of 2014, Zhao Qing, vice director of Pesticide and Equipment Office of the National Agro-Tech Extension and Service Center (NATESC), made a prediction on insecticide market in 2015. Accordingly, the demand for insecticides will drop and the structural adjustment will be made by relevant enterprises. The predicted data comes from NATESC and can only used as reference for pesticide manufacturers. They should keep an eye on all the factors that could influence the insecticide market, including climate, the demand and supply, market share of common insecticide products, planting area of crops and the outbreak of pests. Of course, they need to fully comprehend the market conditions and adjust the corresponding marketing strategies in order to remain competitive and profitable.

  Mr. Zhao predicted that the demand for insecticides would be 110,300 tonnes in 2015.

  Organophosphorus insecticides

  The demand for organophosphorus insecticides presents evident drop in recent years and is estimated to reach 77,700 tonnes in 2015, while the demand for high efficiency, low toxicity and long-lasting efficacy insecticides will be on the increase. In detail, strong demands for insecticides like dichlorvos, chlorpyrifos, trichlorfon, phoxim, acephate, omethoate, triazophos are shown.

  Carbamate insecticides

  It is estimated that the demand for carbamate insecticides will reach 5,200 tonnes.

  Strongly demanded: isoprocarb, carbofuran and carbosulfan 

  Soar in demand: indoxacarb, carbaryl, dimethacarb and carbosulfan

  Slump in demand: thiodicarb, aldicarb and carbofuran.

  Pyrethroid insecticides

  The demand for pyrethroid pesticides is expected to reach 3,600 tonnes.

  Strongly demanded: beta-cypermethrin, envalerate and fenpropathrin

  Soar in demand: bifenthrin and esfenvalerate

  Other insecticides

  The demand for other pesticides is forecasted to reach 23,900 tonnes. Bisultap, imidacloprid, pymetrozine, (BT) bacillus thuringiensis, chlorbenzuron, abamectin and acetamiprid are strongly demanded. Besides, the demand for abamectin, abamectin-aminomethyl, buprofezin, monosultap, thiamethoxamand will drop compared with in 2014.

  Mr Zhao predicted that the demand for acaricide will rise and reach 10,900 tonnes in 2015. Strong demands for crystal calcium polysulfide, propargite, pyridaben, dicofol, azocyclotin and clofentezin are shown. Hereinto, the demand for crystal calcium polysulfide presents a large growth.

  Through Mr. Zhao predicted that the demand for insecticides in 2015 will drop on the whole, the demand for pesticide in 2015 will still be huge under the influence of warm winter in 2014.

  There will be great opportunities for some insecticides, such as imidacloprid, acetamiprid and chlorpyrifos. Expect for that, green insecticides that could prevent and control pest will also get sound development opportunities. High efficiency and low toxicity insecticides will also attract more attention as people's awareness of environment protection and food safety have been strengthened.

  Besides, bio-insecticides will have huge prospects, such as spinosad, pyrethrin, matrine, rotenone, ethylicin and muscalure. The demand for environmentally friendly insecticides will rise, such as water-based formulation, modified emulsifiable concentrate without toxicity and side effect, because the government intensified its control for emulsifiable concentrate products.
