China Potato Expo 2016 opened in Kunming City of Yunnan Province on June 27, 2016. Vice Minister Qu Dongyu and Vice Governor of Yunnan province Gao Feng attended and addressed the opening ceremony.
Vice Minister Qu noted that China is endowed with abundant potato resources and its acreage and output of both potato and sweet potato top the world. In recent years, the potato industry has developed rapidly in China. The extended industrial chain and broad product spectrum have become a highlight of efficient modern agriculture and contributed a lot to farmers' income growth and China's food security.
The China Potato Expo, organized by MOA Agricultural Trade Promotion Center, was initiated in 2010 with an aim to boost the potato industry. Being the sixth of its kind, this year's Expo focused on supply-side reform in agriculture and displayed the latest products and technologies in research, production, processing, storage, transport and marketing, covering wide-ranged potato crops including potato, sweet potato, cassava and yam, among others.
China Potato Expo 2016 attracted over 130 overseas exhibitors from 9 countries including the Netherlands, the U.S. and Canada.
