Minister Han Changfu of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) met with Antonio Walker, minister of agriculture of Chile, in Beijing on August 29. They exchanged their views on further strengthening agricultural cooperation between China and Chile. Yu Xinrong, vice minister of MARA, also attended the meeting and held working meeting with Walker afterwards.

Han said that agricultural cooperation between China and Chile has made substantial development in recent years due to both sides' joint efforts. The China-Chile Joint Committee on Agriculture has been running smoothly, the cooperation in agricultural science and technology has been steadily advanced and bilateral agricultural trade has enjoyed rapid development. The China-Chile Demonstration Farm in Tianjin in particular continues to operate well, thus becoming a significant example of China-Chile agricultural cooperation. For the future, China will continue to support the development of the China-Chile Demonstration Farm and speed up the building of the Chile-China Demonstration Farm in Chile, so as to create more opportunities for bilateral agricultural cooperation.

Yu held constructive talks with Walker on accelerating the development of the Chile-China Demonstration Farm in Chile. Yu proposed to upgrade the construction of the Demonstration Farm to the level of cooperation between the two ministries in order to push forward the project to be implemented efficiently and effectively at an early date.

Walker expressed his strong support for the proposals, saying that Chile will prepare the draft plan for the Chile-China Demonstration Farm as soon as possible and then seek opinions from the Chinese side. Chile is willing to work with China to accelerate the establishment of the Demonstration Farm and make the project a model for agricultural cooperation between the two countries.

After the meeting, the two ministers signed the Memorandum of Understanding for 2020-2030 Cooperation Between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Chile on China-Chile Demonstration Farms
