On 11 May, 2016, at the 3rd China Pesticide Industry Analysis and Ranking Lists
Release Conference, the China Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA)
unveiled the 2015 Chinese Best-selling Biopesticide List for the first time,
including 12 best sellers. Notably, ten of the 12 were biofungicides, 83% of
the total. This indicates that in 2015 biofungicides were more popular among
Chinese farmers than bioinsecticides in domestic market.

Specifically, only two bioinsecticides were on this best-seller list, ranking
No. 7 and No. 9 respectively. The other ten were all biofungicides.
Notably, Langfang Pesticide Medium-sized Refinery Factory, IPP, CAAS's
"Atailing" (6% oligosaccharins + plant activator protein WP) topped
this list. This product was the only biofungicide listed on the 2015 Most
Promising Pesticide Brand List (by sales), at second place, showing its great
popularity among Chinese farmers.
Besides, a number of international agrochemical enterprises have been attracted
by this outstanding product. On 22 Feb., 2016, Arysta LifeScience Co., Ltd.
obtained the exclusive global access to this fungicide.
"We expect 'Atailing' to become a representational Chinese biopesticide in
both domestic and the overseas markets," said an official in the Institute
of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

As for the large proportion of biofungicides on the 2015 Chinese Best-selling
Biopesticide List, "It is not surprising," an industry insider
commented to CCM, "It manifests the good sales and popularity of some
Chinese biofungicides such as 'Atailing'. However, this doesn't mean
bioinsecticides are not well recognized."
"So far, biopesticides have become the focus and new growth point in the
global agrochemical industry," this insider analyzed, "Safe and
environmentally-friendly, the biopesticide market is promising, given heavier
ecological stress caused by environment pollution, national adjustment in pesticide structure, elimination of highly toxic pesticides from the market,
restraints on exported pesticide residue, construction of food safety
regulation system and pests' stronger resistance to chemical pesticides.
In
fact, domestic pesticide industry has paid more attention to biopesticides and
more producers have devoted to the R&D and promotion of
biopesticides."
"Biopesticides, especially bioinsecticides, has lower efficiency than
chemical pesticides. This is the main drawback hindering its development.
However, in crop protection, the requirement on efficiency for biofungicides is
much lower than that for bioinsecticides. Thus, it is acceptable that the
former is more popular in the market. Many biopesticide producers even put
biofungicides first and bioinsecticides second in their R&D,"
concluded the insider.
