As planned mutually by Zhejiang government and Leshi, the park will cover 286.67 ha (4,300 mu) and secure an overall car manufacturing capacity of 400,000 unit/a (Phase 1 given at 200,000 unit/a and Phase 2 also at 200,000 unit/a, to run two years later, following Phase 1 operation). In the meantime, the park will be established as a global car manufacturing base and a themed tourist destination by integrating Leshi sports, Leshi music and ecological elements of movie and television.

Moreover, both sides will strategically partner in various projects such as smart car industry fund and "Internet + finance".

Jia Yueting, president of Leshi said in the following, "The initiation of this project signals that we become the first internet company in the world to manufacture car and also the first to self-construct car manufacturing factory."

About Leshi super car

As early as April 2016, the conception car LeSEE manufactured by Leshi was first exposed to the public, marketed for its concept of smart connection, and featuring functions including automated driving, self-learning, and human face/ emotion/ environment/ path recognitions.

Liu Hong, vice president of Leshi, revealed that the car manufacturing might start at the end of 2016 or at the beginning of 2017 and mass production would be realized pretty soon.

It’s worth noting that Leshi has not obtained the electric vehicle (EV) production license yet. According to the officially issued Administrative Measures on Establishing Battery Electric Passenger Vehicle Enterprises by China's National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, requirements to apply such a license include registration of enterprise in China, integral EV R&D experience, vehicle manufacturing capability, independent intelligent property right and relevant patents of invention in certain areas. If the above-mentioned requirements are satisfied, the license can be granted.

As indicated by officials in the company, the company is in the process of application, and examination and approval will not be a problem.

According to investigation source, the smart car market size would exceed USD22.63 billion (RMB150 billion) in the future. If after-sale service and rising "Internet of Vehicle", the figure will surpass USD150.88 billion (RMB1 trillion).

Faced with such a gigantic market potential, other internet companies are also attempting to compete. Apart from Leshi, Beijing Chehejia Information Technology Co., Ltd. also held a ground breaking ceremony for its smart car manufacturing base in Wujin national hi-tech development zone in Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province on 10 Aug., 2016, with an intention to build a production capacity of 300,000 unit/a. Of this, Phase 1 (capacity: 200,000 unit/a) is expected to go into operation at the end of 2017.
