Researchers Liu Xiaodan, Yan Jingri, Wang Pingyong, Zhang Jianying and Shen Huolin, with fuzzy pepper material 1789M, fuzz-free pepper material 1788W and their F1 and F2 group as test materials, studied the inheritance law of pepper fuzz and located the fuzz gene by bulk segregation analysis (BSA).
The results show that pepper fuzz is formed by some epidermal cells’
being gibbous, most of which are upright without branches. Different
parts of the plant have different fuzz densities. In general, young
stems have the most, followed by matured stems, the back of leaves and
the front of leaves respectively. Properties of pepper fuzz are
controlled by a pair of dominant nuclear genes which are on the
chromosome No. 10, between ssr10-19 and ssr10-21 on the SSR markers. The genetic distance between these two markers and the fuzz gene are 5.3 cm and 13.3 cm respectively.
