The environmental impact assessment (EIA) report of Shandong Jinchen Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (Shandong Jinchen) was publicised on 7 June for public participation.

Project Overview:

• Construction nature: New construction
• Location: Tianqiao District, Jinan City, Shandong Province
• Site area & floor area: 13,767m² & 21,340m² (This project will be carried out the rented factories. No new factory buildings will be built and no additional land will be used.)
• Total investment: USD30.01 million (RMB200 million), of which USD750,176 (RMB5 million) for environmental protection purposes
• Construction content: To build a production workshop, boiler rooms, sewage stations, laboratories, offices, etc. and purchase seed fermenters, fermenters, centrifugal machines, dryers and other equipment
• Production capacity: The construction of this project will be divided into two phases. Upon completion, the whole factory will be able to produce 20,000 t/a psicose & byproduct—2,420t/a F42 HFCS (high fructose corn syrup)
• Phase I: 3,000 t/a psicose & byproduct—363 t/a F42 HFCS
• Phase II: 17,000 t/a psicose & byproduct—2,057 t/a F42 HFCS
• Production process:
• Convert the glucose into fructose with the purchased isomerase—obtain purified fructose solution after filtration, centrifugation, desalinisation and other processes—convert the fructose into psicose with the bio enzyme that is cultivated with special strain—obtain the high-purity crystalline psicose and liquid psicose after centrifugation, filtration, desalinisation, separation, concentration, crystallisation, drying and other processes
• Besides, mix the glucose and fructose that have not been fully converted to produce the byproduct F42 HFCS
• Labour quota: 60 employees for Phase I & 300 employees for Phase II
• Working system: Three eight-hour shifts (24-hour workday)
• Progress:
• Phase I: It is estimated that the construction of Phase I will last for 5 months and it will be put into production in Jan. 2023
• Phase II: It is expected that Phase II will enter the production stage in June 2025
