At the invitation of
ICAMA, an Egyptian pesticide team visited China during June 16-25, 2014. The Chinese and Egyptian sides had an in-depth discussion on technical exchanges on pesticide management and the establishment of cooperation mechanisms.
The Egyptian team is composed of Dr. Mohamed I. Abdel-Megeed, Chairman of the Agricultural Pesticide Committee (APC) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR) of Egypt and Dr. Yehia A. Ibrahim, Vice Chairman of APC.
During the team’s visit to China, Pesticide Management Technology Meeting was held on June 17-18, 2014. The Meeting was chaired by Mr. Gu Baogen, Deputy Director-General of ICAMA. At the meeting, the two sides fully exchanged views and discussed on pesticide management systems, regulation systems, data requirements for pesticide registration, pesticide import and export and marketing supervision. In addition, the two sides had a discussion on intention for strategic cooperation on pesticide management between China and Egypt, and reached consensus on mutual recognition of pesticide registration data. A Memorandum on technical cooperation on pesticide management between China and Egypt was signed to boost bilateral cooperation on pesticide registration management, quality supervision and trade rules.
During its stay in China, the Egyptian team visited Chinese GLP certified labs on physical and chemical property test and exotoxicity test in Beijing and Jiangsu. The team also visited the Institute of Plant Protection of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS-IPP) and had a meeting with delegates from some pesticide pharmaceuticals.
The Agricultural Pesticide Committee (APC) is the Egyptian supreme organ in charge of pesticide administration, and its members are appointed by the MALR. Authorized by the MALR, the APC is responsible for registration, distribution, use, import and export of pesticides, and evaluation on the efficacy, safety and performance of pesticides to secure agricultural production, human health and environmental safety.
The visit of Egyptian team to China laid a sound foundation for future cooperation in pesticide registration management, upgrading pesticide management to a new height and the development of principles and mechanisms for mutually-beneficial cooperation.
