R22 is the biggest and most widely applied refrigerating fluid in China. But due to its high GWP, it greatly affects the environment. Many countries in the world have weeded out R22 and applied other substitutes.
In 1991, China signed an agreement named Montreal Protocol and promised to weed out HCFCs in the domestic production. According to the regulation, China will decrease its HCFCs production and consumption to the average level of 2009's and 2010's. Up to 2015, China will reduce its HCFCs production and consumption by 10% and 35% till 2020. In 2030, HCFCs will be almost eliminated except for a little volume (about 2.5%) that is used for refrigerating maintenance.
On Dec. 12, 2012, after the signing ceremony was finished by the Foreign Economic Cooperation Office, Ministry Environmental Protection of People's Republic of China, the domestic refrigerating fluid industry begins to weed out HCFCs.
In this reformation, the local enterprises will sign the contracts in three batches separately (enterprises of the first batch have signed). The first batch includes Gree Electric Appliances, Inc. of Zhuhai, Zhejiang DunAn Environmental Co., Ltd., Nanjing TICA Air-conditioning Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang Commercial Machinery Factory. These four enterprises can gain USD18.05 million in total from the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol and they promised to weed out 3,064 tonnes of HCFC-22 (R22) in total before Dec. 2015.
