Bloomberg reported that China coal prices rose in the past two weeks as utilities restocked ahead of the winter. According to fortnightly data from IHC McCloskey a researcher based in Petersfield, England thermal coal in Qinhuangdao, China was USD 148.62 per tonne as of September 9 up by 0.4% from two weeks earlier. They fell in the previous four two-week periods.

Mr Emmanuel Fages a Societe Generale analyst in Paris said "Overall Qinhuangdao prices are supported by winter purchase but since inventory levels are quite high the prices found a temporary equilibrium.'
