According to the data released by MOFCOM, as booming electricity demand went on, the consumption for both of the electricity and power coal had increased rapidly, consequently China's raw coal price surged by 0.5% for the week ended on May 1, which was the fourth consecutive week growth. During the given time, the prices for brown coal, anthracite coal and soft coal had hiked by 1.0%, 0.3% and 0.1% week over week. On the other hand, the coal inventories in Qinhuangdao port came to 5.348 million t, dropping by 7.0% week over week and by 26.9% compared to late March owing to the railway overhaul. Therefore as the imminent peak of electricity usage, the coal consumption and price are expected to continue hiking in future.
