Peruvian fish exports generated US$ 412.7 million in revenue in August this year, up 13.5 percent from the same month in 2012, when its value was US$ 363.4 million.
The exported volume also increased by 10.2 percent from 215,600 tons to 237,700 tons year-on-year, www.cnchemicals.com/ reported, citing data from the Ministry of Production (Produce).
This rise was mainly due to higher sales of fishmeal and frozen products, which grew 37.2 percent and 11.9 percent, respectively.
As it is indicated in the latest Statistical Bulletin issued by Produce, between January and August 2013 the sale of 928,000 tons abroad generated US$ 1.8 billion while in the same period last year 1,662,000 tons were exported for US$ 2.5 billion.
Meanwhile, in August 2013 a total of 173,100 tons of fishmeal was exported, 37.2 percent more than in the same month last year, when 126,100 tons were sent abroad.
With regard to value, in the eighth month of this year fishmeal was exported for US$ 268.7 million, 41.7 percent more than in August 2012 (US$ 189.5 million).
Between January and August 2013 a total of 532,600 tons of fishmeal was exported, 50.9 percent less than in the same period in 2012 (1,084,800 tons).
The main markets for Peruvian fishmeal were China (337,878 tons), Germany (65,795 tons), Japan (33,377 tons) and Chile (27,961 tons), among others.
