On October 17, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, accompanied by the Chairman of National Development and Reform Commission Zhang Ping and Director of State Council Research Office Xie Fuzhan, paid a visit to Lanzhou Petrochemical Company.

At the ethylene plant of Lanzhou Petrochemical Company, Premier Wen was briefed on the construction and technique introduction of the 460kt/a ethylene project, especially about the independent innovation of the core technology of ethylene production and the localization of the compressor. He also asked details about the manufacture of synthetic rubber. Premier Wen highly appreciated Lanzhou Petrochemical's remarkable contributions to the national economy, and required the company to make breakthroughs in key technologies, adapt to the market change, and pay special attention to energy conservation and consumption reduction.
