On July 25, Premier Wen Jiabao paid a visit to Jilin Petrochemical's Carbon Fiber Plant and Jilin Fuel Alcohol Company Limited during his inspection tour in Jilin province. Premier Wen talked with the production-line staff and the model workers, and learnt about the characteristics of carbon fiber products, their applications, R&D process and technical status, as well as the operation of fuel alcohol projects.
The 100t/a carbon fiber project at Jilin Petrochemical was launched in March 2008, and became operational in May 2009 with the products meeting Japan's T300 level.
Jilin Fuel Alcohol Co., Ltd. has an annual capacity to process and convert 1.65 million tons of corn to produce 500,000 tons of fuel alcohol. The company is now actively engaged in scientific and technological innovation in order to develop practical process to produce fuel alcohol from non-grain crops such as straw.
