CNPC Vice-president Zhou Jiping gives a speech at China-Kazakhstan Senior-level Business Forum

On April 9, a senior business forum—Kazakhstan-China: Partnership for Success—was held in Beijing Hotel with participation of Wang Qishan, vice-premier of the State Council of PRC, and Karim Masimov, prime minister of Kazakhstan, both of who delivered speeches. Chen Deming, Minister of Commerce of PRC, and his Kazakhstan counterpart also addressed at the forum.

Zhou Jiping, Vice-president of CNPC, delivered a key-note speech Adhering Mutual Benefits and Achieving Common Development at the forum on behalf of CNPC to review the process and achievements in Kazakhstan-China oil cooperation in the past decade. He also proposed his deliberations on expanding oil/gas cooperation between Kazakhstan and China.

Mr. Zhou concluded that CNPC had totally invested USD 6.5 billion and paid USD 3.19 billion tax in Kazakhstan in the past decade. CNPC also donated USD 50 million and created 18.1 thousand job opportunities for local communities. With 92 percent of its employment localized, local talents were promoted to middle-level managerial posts, accounting for 60 percent of the total. CNPC provided technical and foreign language training to local staff and more than 300 Kazakhstan staff was trained in China. Besides, CNPC financed education of more than 120 outstanding Kazakhstan students studying in China and invested in construction of Beijing Plaza in Astana. The eight projects invested by CNPC such as CNPC AktobeMunaiGas and PetroKazakhstan Inc. cover a wide range of business such as exploration, development, refining, crude oil pipeline transportation and marketing. In 2007, these projects produced 18.62 million tons of crude oil and 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas, achieving substantial socio-economic results.
