CNPC-AktobeMunaiGas held a ceremony on December 11 to celebrate the commencement of the operation of the first line of the Third Zhanazhol Oil and Gas Processing Plant in Aktobe, Kazakhstan.

Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov and CNPC Vice President Wang Fucheng both addressed the ceremony. Aslan Musin, Speaker of Majilis of Parliament of Kazakhstan, Ma Fucai, Deputy Director of the Office of the National Energy Leading Group, and Zhang Xiyun, Chinese Ambassador to Kazakhstan, attended the ceremony, along with Chinese and Kazakh staff.

Construction of the plant, covering an area of 101 hectares, commenced in June 2006. The new plant is designed to have three lines, each with the capacity to process 2 billion cubic meters of gas a year. With the completion of the three lines in 2010, the plant will be capable of processing 6 billion cubic meters of gas a year and yield 500,000 tons of LNG, 182,000 tons of sulfur, 211,000 tons of light oil and 1.03 million tons of gas condensate. The general contractor is China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Group, assisted by the Sichuan and Xinjiang design institutes.

With the first line of the processing plant being put into operation, it is possible to provide clean fuel for Aktobe State in order to improve the local environment. It has also provided 480 local people with employment opportunities. The plant was named as one of the six breakthrough projects in Aktobe by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev on July 3, 2007. It is also the first breakthrough project in Kazakhstan's National Program of "30 Enterprise Projects".
