Nigeria launches new feed mill aimed at rural development
Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development launched a new feed mill in Plateau State last week under its Fadama III Project.
At a cost of NGN423,500 (US$2,671), the feed mill is able to produce 20 tonnes of feed per day with a wide range of feeds including poultry, pig, fish and dog feed.
The project aims to help the Fadama User Group (FUG), also known as Another Life Women in Agriculture (ALWA). The programme coordinator, Gideon Dandam said, "The feed mill will not only enrich the women financially, but will also help other poultry or livestock farmers in accessing feeds at their door step. Also, it will generate employment opportunities in the community."
ALWA Leader, Patricia Azi thanked the Fadama III programme and the project team, and commented that the programme was positively affecting lives, in particular the young ones, by providing employment opportunities.
The feed mill will provide the community with training, technical services and advice, with support from the Fadama programme.
The Fadama III Project was set up to increase the incomes for users of rural land and water resources on a sustainable basis.
