India''s feed price down on sluggish demand
India''s poultry feed prices decreased by INR10-50 (US$0.18-0.90) for a 30-kilogramme and 50-kilogramme bag respectively, following some correction in soymeal in recent past and sluggish demand.
Artificial scarcity created by traders and stock holders in the domestic market is the prime reason behind the current situation of the market, said Sujit Kumar, Sales Head, Sarvottam Poultry Feed Supply Centre Pvt Ltd. "It''s hard to anticipate the market future right now as traders are playing a decisive role at present and this is the prime reason behind the nominal decline in the prices of feed," he added.
If stockists start to offload their stocks in the market, prices of soymeal and other ingredients may come down in upcoming days and the prices of poultry feed will come down too, said Sujit.
The cost of poultry feed has hit the roof, forcing many farmers to choose the substitute of poultry feed and that led the feed demand down, said market experts.
On Wednesday (Aug 8), soymeal was quoted at around INR4,400-4,600 (US$79-83) a quintal. Corn prices went down by INR80-1,400 (US$1.44-25) a quintal. Bajra was at INR1,200 (US$21.6) a quintal, DCP went for INR43 (US$0.77) a kilogramme, while fish oil sold at INR100 (US$2) a litre.

"Broiler Pre-Starter Concentrate 30%" was down by INR30 (US$0.54) and sold at INR1,700 (US$31) for a 30-kilogramme bag, while layer concentrate cost INR1,530 (US$27.5) for a 50-kilogramme bag, INR10 (US$0.18) down from previous level.
