Aquaculture feed prices increase in Indonesia
In Indonesia, shrimp and fish feed prices increased about IDR100 to IDR150 (EUR0.8-1.2; US$0.01-$0.02) per kg since last week.
According to the chairman of Indonesian Feed Mill Association- aquaculture division Denny Indrajaya, recently in Jakarta, these price increases were triggered by the rising prices of raw materials, especially fishmeal and soymeal.
Shrimp feed prices currently range between IDR11,000 to IDR14,000 (EUR0.90-1.15) per kg, while fish price range between IDR8,000 to IDR9,000 (EUR0.66-0.74) per kg for catfish and around IDR5,000 (EUR0.41) per kg for tilapia.
Indrajaya said that the supply of fishmeal is still dominated by imports. "In 2011, imports of fishmeal from Peru were about 80,000 tonnes. Whereas local fishmeal supply is only 50,000 tonnes per year," he said.
Because of rising raw material prices, Indrajaya encouraged the feed mills to look for cheaper alternative raw materials, which can suppress the price of feed.
