DuPont lobbies US government on GM seed sector
DuPont Co. spent US$1.21 million in the first quarter to lobby the federal government on the genetically engineered seed industry, as well as climate change and energy issues, according to a report.
DuPont's lobbying expenditures are up from the US$800,000 the company spent during the same period last year, but are about even with the US$1.2 million the company spent in the fourth quarter of 2009.
DuPont, a chemical company with diverse holdings and a growing stake in the genetically engineered seed business, also lobbied the federal government on a bill to develop alternative energy sources, according to the report filed April 20.
In the January-to-March period, DuPont lobbied Congress, the White House, the Department of State, Department of Commerce, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, Food and Drug Administration, Department of Homeland Security and the USDA, according to the report.
