India modifies Fodder Development Scheme
The Indian government said on Tue (Apr 13) it has widened the scope of centrally-sponsored Fodder Development Scheme to ensure efficient use of available fodder for livestock.
The modification has been done on recommendations of the Working Group on Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, an official statement said.
With an outlay of INR141.40 crore (US$32 million), the scheme incorporates new components and modern technology interventions including strengthening of feed testing laboratories, introduction of chaff cutters, and setting up of area-specific mineral mixture, feed pelleting and feed manufacturing units.
Subsidies given under the scheme have helped double the number of fodder block making units, according to the statement. The optimum and efficient utilisation of feed holds key for successful livestock production.
