Guangzhou China Mar. 7, 2011- In Jan. 2011, European Union (EU) forbids sales of feeding bottles which contain bisphenol A (BPA), causing domestic sales of polycarbonate (PC) feeding bottles declined, even other plastic feeding bottles without containing BPA are discriminated, and only glass feeding bottles are selling well. EU bans BPA because it dissolves when heated, and then seeps into foods, and leads to sexual precocity for infants.
In domestic market, most PC feeding bottles contain BPA, and it has not been forbidden officially up to now. However, good news for domestic feeding bottles is that Ministry of Health claims that they may refuse feeding bottles contain BPA and the standard is under revising. Ministry of Health has issued draft for comment about feeding bottle's packaging materials, forbidden of BPA used in infant feeding bottles is put forward.
EU's ban for BPA feeding bottles has greatly affected domestic consumers. In order to prevent the return of melamine crisis, which impose great impact on food security, many BPA feeding bottles is under carriage in major supermarkets in China, replaced by glass feeding bottles.
