UK feed firm to expand Bury animal feed plant
BOCM Pauls will invest over GBP1 million to upgrade and expand the manufacturing facilities at its Bury, St. Edmunds, Suffolk animal feed plant due to the opening of new export markets and increased demand.
Export director Tony Suckling said that exports of speciality feeds had quadrupled over the past seven years. Increased sales and marketing activities, combined with favourable currency exchange rates had all helped to boost export demand.
The investment is made so the company can meet the rapidly growing export demand, said Suckling.
The Bury plant has a production capacity in excess of 40,000 tonnes and is a leading supplier of piglet creep and starter feeds within the European Community.
Marketing manager John Cessford said BOCM is a rapidly growing company in this specialist market and they are selling piglet feeds in 18 countries and are actively seeking further export opportunities.
European pig production is forecast to increase two percent over the next three to four years, making pork the favourite meat in Europe, he said.
