Facts on GM feed seen as misrepresented
Facts of GM feed have been misrepresented, and the debate will have to start with consumers, according to UK industry players at Pig and Poultry Live.
Pig producer James Black said even if his pigs were fed on GM soy, none of them would contain GM material in the meat. His claims sparked debate among the audience, but he was quick to explain.
"During the digestive processes every single protein fed to pigs is broken down into amino acids which are absorbed by the pig in exactly the same way as any other protein is. So I can guarantee no meat will contain any genetically modified material," Black said.
A shopper at the conference said they would not buy anything with GMs, but admitted feeling ignorant about the so-called Frankenstein foods.
