Finland's Rehuraisio made mistakes in feed supervision
Finnish feed company Rehuraisio has made clear mistakes in the supervision of its feed production, according to Finland's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
Problems with salmonella that caused the recent epidemic in Finland had been brewing in Raisio's feed plants for years.
Last year, six salmonella findings were detected and in early this year, salmonella-contaminated feeds caused an outbreak in farms.
The Ministry said while Rehuraisio had tried to clean up places where salmonella was detected, the company did not take the risk as seriously as it would have been required to.
Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira knew of Rehuraisio's salmonella findings, and the Ministry will set up a working group to examine supervision in the feed industry soon.
