ABN mill accredited with health & safety standard
ABN's Sherburn mill is the first compound feed mill in the UK to be recommended by the British Standards Institute (BSI) for accreditation to BS OHAS 18001, the International Health & Safety Standard.
The mill is one of the UK's producers of compound feed for pigs and poultry at over 150,000 tonnes a year.
Alex Masih, ABN Supply Chain Director said that as part of their on-going commitment to improving the Health and Safety of the people, visitors and contractors, ABN sets for itself the ambitious target of gaining this accreditation for all its 9 mills. This is another clear indication of ABN's commitment to ensuring they meet the needs of the wider food industry, having previously achieved BS 14001 for environmental management at all their mills.
To achieve OHAS 18001, the mill had to satisfy a number of exacting criteria, including planning for hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control; training, awareness and competence; emergency preparedness and response; performance measuring, monitoring and improvement.
Mr Masih added that the Sherburn team had spent 10 months working towards achieving this accreditation by BSI, which is a clear indication of their effort, thoroughness and commitment to their colleagues, customers and suppliers.
