Addcon''s Kofasil Lac silage inoculant approved in China
Kofasil Lac, a silage inoculantbased on Addcon''s patented Lactobacilus plantarum strains, which offers quick acidification of grass and alfafa silages, has been successfully registered in China.
Alfalfa and leguminous plants are increasingly cultivated in China. In addition, the industry is facing storage problems after harvesting, which may lead to protein loss and deterioration. Addcondecided therefore to introduce another eco-effective product to China, Kofasil Lac, to produce the best quality silage. After stringent testing and assessment, it received the approval by Chinese ministry of agriculture (MoA).
In comparison to Kofasil S, which is a heterofermentative bacterial preparation and suitable for silage made from corn and corn products, Kofasil® Lac is a solid homofermentative bacterial preparation, which is used to improve fermentation quality and to enhance the fermentation process of silages made from easy-to-ensile and moderately difficult-to-ensile forages (grass, legumes, and whole-crop cereals) in the optimal DM range between 25% and 45%.
Kofasil Lac contains two specially selected/isolated from nature, non-GM strains of the lactic acid bacteria Lactobacillus plantarum. The two highly osmotolerant homofermentative lactic acid bacteria strains are characterised by fast acidification, high acid tolerance, efficient utilisation of a wide range of sugars and high activity at different temperatures.
After inoculation, the product causes a rapid and significant decline in pH by formation of lactic acid and undesired spoilage micro-organisms (e.g. clostridia and enterobacteria) are thereby sustainable inhibited. Treating forage crops with Kofasil Lac prevents the loss of nutrients, enhances high-performance of cattle and ensures feed hygiene.
