During the first half of 2013, Mexico's fisheries and aquaculture production was 914,700 tonnes, 4.4% above the average for the first half of the previous six years.
For 2013, national fisheries and aquaculture production is estimated to be 1.67 million tonnes. Small pelagics, tuna, shrimp, squid and shark, are among the main species caught.
In aquaculture, the report has an output of 84,100 tonnes, particularly due to the recovery of farmed tuna production.
The head of the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries, Mario Aguilar Sanchez, said that in fisheries the government's strategy of the Republic is oriented to harness the productive potential of the national fisheries and aquaculture.
