Brazil to boost production in aquaculture parks

In order to boost production in aquaculture parks in the area, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MPA) is to tender aquaculture areas in the reservoirs of the hydroelectric plant of Ilha Solteira, in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.

In total five aquaculture parks are to be created with 52 non-onerous areas and 11 onerous ones, which together total more than 91 hectares of water with a capacity to produce more than 17,000 tonnes of fish/year and directly generate about 274 jobs.

The areas offered are aimed at small, medium and large producers interested in producing tilapia, cachara, pintado, pacu, tambacu and piracanjuba.

In non-onerous zones, the bidding procedure will be non-onerous competition/selection for a limited period of time. Meanwhile, the onerous areas will be tendered as competition/best offer and the minimum value per hectare to be ceased in 20 years is BRL18,168.80 (US$7,887) and per year of BRL908.44 (US$394). In both cases, the right of use is 20 years; it is renewable for the same period, according to the MPA.

The proposals must meet the minimum requirements established in the regulations and in the baseline. The opening of bid envelopes will be 30 days after the publication specified. At present aquaculture areas are also available for entrepreneurs in other states: Parana, Goias, Pernambuco, Bahia, S?o Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
