Michigan State University Extension will be offering two identical pesticide manual review sessions for mid-Michigan farmers. The first will take place in Ionia County on Feb. 26, 2015, at the Clarkesville Research Station in Clarkesville, Michigan, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the second will take place in Eaton County on March 11, 2015, at the Eaton County MSU Extension office in Charlotte, Michigan, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. This review is intended to help prepare participants for the MDARD pesticide applicator certification exams. Attendance to the review session is optional and not required to take the MDARD exam.

Each session will begin with a review of 2015 nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer recommendations for field crops. These recommendations are formulated within the framework of Michigan’s economic, agronomic and environmental constraints. We will promote proactive and voluntary phosphorus education and practices to evade situations like those that happened with Lake Erie. Next will be a chapter-by-chapter review of the pesticide core manual. Emphasize will be to prepare participants for the test using multiple choice practice questions.

Those attending the review session only will receive four MDARD recertification credits.

To register for the review session, please call 616-527-5357 in Ionia County and 517-543-2310 in Eaton County. The cost is $30 and includes lunch and refreshments. Online registration is not available.

This registration does not include study manuals. To order study manuals E3007 or E3008, please visit the MSU Extension Bookstore.

The regular MDARD certification exam will be held after the review session beginning at 1 p.m. If you plan to take the MDARD exam, be prepared to pay by check (no cash or credit cards) payable to State of Michigan. The fee for “private” applicators is $50 and the fee for “commercial” applicators is $75.
