Increased feed costs add pressure on Chinese aquaculture exporters
With feed cost on the rise, Chinese aquaculture exporters are feeling the pressure on them.
Due to shortage of Peruvian anchovy and local raw ingredients, the cost of feed in 2014 had increased by more than 50%, and this problem is expected to continue through the first half 2015.
Shandong is China's main feed producing province, however, due to the government requiringfeed production companies to producea minimum of 20 tonnes of feed per hour, the number of fish feed enterprises in Shandong Rongcheng City, had reduced to the current 20 from 186 in 2013.
As a result, China's domestic supply offish meal had decreased to 45 million tonnes last year, compared to 60 million tonnes in 2013.
