Guangzhou China Apr. 20, 2011 - Oxytetracycline and streptomycin, which has been applied in the fields of apple and pear trees over the past 30 years, may be eliminated by USA. These two fungicides are used to control amylovora. Many American companies engage in these products, including AgroSource.
Since 2000, NOP of USDA approved that oxytetracycline and streptomycin could be applied in planting apples and pears. NOSB will vote on the issue whether oxytetracycline and streptomycin continue to be used on 2nd April 2011. However, the situation is not promising. If the bill isn't passed, the two products won't be able to be applied in Organic farming.
It can lead to tremendous disaster and risk in apples and pears planting if oxytetracycline and streptomycin are eliminated. Farmers would suffer very serious financial losses without these two products in some years of disaster strikes. The number of arganic apples and pears in USA market will reduce greatly if oxytetracycline and streptomycin are scratched their names off the list of Organic farming products.
