Wanted in Ghana: Fish feed mills
Aquaculture is largely untapped in Ghana, and it offers great opportunities, the Netherlands Embassy in that African country said.
It said the industry's growth is hampered by the fact that there is only one local fish feedmanufacturer in one of the more developed countries in Africa.
"I think definitely there is an opportunity to invest in a local production plant for fish feed because there is only one or two plants that produce fish feed", Thierry Van Helden, First Secretary at the Netherlands Embassy in Ghana, was quoted as saying in a news report.
He said more local feed mills would bring prices of fish down.
The Embassy also saw opportunities in fish processing, fingerling production and tilapia farming. It added it was trying to attract Dutch investors to explore these opportunities.
"We want to stimulate Dutch companies to invest in the aquaculture sector in Ghanaand to increase trade in that area so we can modernise and professionalise the sector to a higher level," Van Helden said.
Ghana has a population of 27 million and a land area of 238,535 square kilometres. Bordered by the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean in the south, it has a 560-kilometre coastline.
