The charity sales attracted 97 embassies and representative offices of international organizations, as well as domestic and foreign enterprises, and individuals to participate.

The fair was hosted by Qian Wei, wife of China''s Foreign Minister Wang Yi. This year''s theme was to pay "A Tribute to Rural Teachers in Yunnan Province" of China.

Qian Wei in her inaugural speech said that the funds raised this year would go to school teachers in Jinping and Malipo counties of Yunnan Province, "so as to encourage the teachers to make more contribution to the cause of education." She also hoped that the funds thus raised would also brighten the future of the children of these counties.

At the Pakistani stands, handicrafts, jewelry, ornaments, home decoration, clothes, as well as, on-the-spot henna hand printing and traditional Pakistani cuisine was available to the delight of the visitors.

The shoppers visited stalls to purchase from the variety of displayed items -- crafts and food. Pakistan stall also attracted the crowd at the fair. The booths were artistically decorated and depicted traditional Pakistani culture. These were also visited by Foreign Minister Wang Yi , his wife Qian Wei, Pakistan''s Ambassador to China Masood Khalid and his wife Sonia Masood Khalid.

Sharing his views on the day, Ambassador Khalid commended the idea saying that the charity over the years had rendered public welfare in poverty stricken areas and was indeed a noble cause to support teachers in far flung rural areas and thereby help improve the provision of education. The Pakistan embassy also donated 20,000 yuan.

Launched by Le Aimei, Chinese honorary ambassador for poverty alleviation and wife of State Councilor Yang Jiechi, the international charity sale was first held in 2009 to raise funds for needy people.
