In Nov., 2016, Lifan Industry (Group) Co., Ltd. (Lifan) held the opening ceremony of its first centralized energy station. Lifan also declared that it would tackle problems of "range anxiety, energy attenuation, and battery safety' by means of battery fast changing mode for electric vehicles. Correspondingly, the company also planned to launch 21 types of alternative energy vehicle (AEV) before 2020, all of which will support the mode.

In the meanwhile, Lifan revealed that there would have been altogether 500 energy stations in major cities of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, southwest China and central China by 2020.

It was known that the first centralized energy station of Lifan was built in Liangjiang New District, Chongqing City. Equipped with divided boxes for battery changing, it can facilitate the completion of battery changing within 3 minutes and provide fast charging services for AEVs of other brands from its 6 charging points.

Based on the requirements for various functions, the centralized energy station was constructed into three layers. The first layer belongs to the battery reserve area where batteries are stored and charged by intelligent control; the second layer is where the batteries are changed and services are provided, mainly for the AEV battery changing; and the third layer is where the energy is collected and reserved, with solar power collection equipment placed at the roof.

At the same time, the centralized energy station can charge for nearly 16,000 batteries simultaneously, and satisfy the battery changing demand for about 2,000 AEVs per day.

As Chen Wei, vice president and chief scientist of Lifan introduced, the company used to focus on vehicle manufacturing but now is more engaged in fields of AEV services, vehicle renting and financial services, and it will construct its own energy supply system to promote AEV.

Currently, two centralized energy stations with a capacity of changing batteries for 2,000 vehicles per day of Lifan are being built, and three more are to be constructed soon. Moreover, another small-sized distribution energy station with a capacity of changing batteries for 200 vehicles per day is also under synchronized construction, and 50 of that kind will have been constructed by the end of 2016, covering cities including Chongqing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Jiyuan, Mianyang, and Zhengzhou.
