The fast increasing capacity of Chinese MA industry, together with the China’s endeavor to improve the production technology, has shown the world that China will play an important role in the world market in the future, even to become a global MA manufacturing base.

China's MA industry is characterised by the following features:

- MA capacity keeps increasing fast despite the fact that China’s MA supply is already surplus, for three reasons clearly explained in the report;

- Geographical concentration of China’s maleic anhydride production, mainly in Shanxi, Jiangsu, Hebei and Tianjin;

- Small import volume, fast growing export volume;

- As the price of raw material accounts for about 85% of total cost of MA, the price changes of the raw material, to some extent, decides the price trend of MA;

- Little change to China’s MA consumption structure these years, though the volume increases quickly.
